Glossary
Every term this documentation uses for a part of the app, a part of the Shopify admin, or a step of the quiz, defined once so you never have to guess what a page means.
Answer
One of the choices a customer picks on a question. An answer carries its own wording, the products it votes for and their weight, and it can instead be set to exclude products, see Questions and answers.
App block
The piece of myDiagnostic you place inside a page of your online store, called myDiagnostic Quiz. It is not a standalone page: you add it to a section of an existing template, and the quiz renders where you put it, see Add the theme block.
App embed
A Shopify extension a theme loads on every page of a store, switched on from the App embeds list of the theme editor. myDiagnostic has none: the quiz is placed page by page as an app block, so an empty App embeds list is expected and not a sign of a failed install, see Add the theme block.
App wording
The text the app supplies by itself, such as Next, Sold out or the message under an invalid email address, which you can override for your whole store and per language. It is the opposite of page content: page content is what you write on a quiz, and it always wins over app wording for the same string, see App wording.
Capture field
A box on the welcome screen that asks the customer for something before the quiz starts: a name, an age, an email address, a phone number, or a field of your own. Each field decides where its value is stored and whether it is required, see Welcome screen.
Default language
The language a quiz is written in, chosen when the quiz is created. It cannot be changed afterwards, it is what every untranslated string falls back to, and it is the language every customer reads when their own is not served, see Secondary languages.
Design token
One of the store-wide appearance settings of a quiz: a colour, a font, a corner style, an animation setting. Tokens apply to the whole quiz, and a per page setting overrides them for one screen, see Design and tokens.
Email gate
The screen shown between the last question and the result, asking the customer for their email address before the recommendation. It is what makes the result email possible, and the only screen carrying the marketing consent checkbox, see Email gate.
Exclusion
An answer set to rule products out instead of voting for them. An exclusion is absolute: a product ruled out by any answer the customer picked is removed before the points are counted, however many votes it collected, see Product matching.
Generic result
The result a customer gets when the three winning products match no scenario: the quiz's own result title and subtitle over the three product cards, with no editorial text and no tips. The response is recorded like any other, see Result scenarios.
The permanent address of one customer's result, of the form
https://your-store.com/apps/mydiagnostic/result/<token>. It reopens the same recommendation, it
does not expire, and it is what the button in the result email points at, see
Result permalink.
Plan
Your subscription level, from Free to Unlimited. It decides how many quizzes you may keep published, how many responses your quizzes may collect in a month, and which features you can use, see Plans and quotas.
Product trio
The three products a scenario is attached to. A scenario is shown only when the three products a customer's answers produced are exactly the three of its trio, in any order, see Result scenarios.
Question
One screen of a quiz, holding the wording the customer reads and the answers they choose from. A question is either Single choice or Multiple choice, and it decides how its own answers are laid out, see Questions and answers.
Quiz
One questionnaire: its pages, its questions and answers, its scenarios, its design and its own settings. A store can hold several, and your plan decides how many of them may be published at once, see Create your first quiz.
Quiz ID
The identifier you paste into the theme block so it knows which quiz to render, copied for you by the Install on your storefront card. It is not the slug: the slug is the readable form the app derives from the quiz name and never asks you to type, which is why renaming a quiz carries the note The public URL slug does not change., while the Quiz ID is the only identifier a screen ever asks you for, see Add the theme block.
Response
One completed run of a quiz by one customer: their answers, whatever they filled in, and the result they were given. A response is recorded when they submit, it counts against your monthly limit, and it is what the Responses tab lists, see Plans and quotas.
Result screen
The last screen of a quiz: the product cards, the add to cart buttons and the copy around them. Every result renders in it, whether or not a scenario filled it with editorial content, see Result screen.
Scenario
A result page you write yourself, attached to one precise trio of products, with a title, a description, an image and tips. The result screen is the frame, the scenario is what goes in it for that particular trio, see Result scenarios.
Scenario tip
One short piece of advice listed under a scenario's description, each with its own text and icon. Tips belong to a scenario, so a customer only reads them when that scenario matched, see Result scenarios.
Secondary language
A language a quiz serves in addition to its default language. Adding one adds a translation tab next to every translatable field, and your plan decides how many a quiz may serve, see Secondary languages.
Theme editor
The Shopify screen where you build the pages of your online store, and where the quiz block is placed and moved. The app opens it for you, with Open the theme editor in the Install on your storefront card, see Add the theme block.
Weight
How much a product gains when a customer picks the answer it is attached to: +1, +2 or +3. A weight sizes a vote, where an exclusion cancels one: points decide the ranking, exclusions remove a product from it entirely, see Product matching.
